Mom Shares Incredible $5 Hack That Will Leave Your Washing Machine Looking Like New

It's often said that a workman is only as good as his tools, and this cliché can be applied to a lot of things in life. Take the washing machine, for example. If it's not running efficiently, you'll have not only wasted water and electricity but time as you try to get your clothes clean. And because it's an appliance that's used often, it can and does get dirty - especially its drawers.

Thankfully, you don't necessarily have to live with sub-par washing results. So before you go investing in some quick fix detergent, get to the root of the problem with this hack from one very savvy mom.

The tip was shared by a Facebook user in the group Mrs. Hinch Cleaning Tips. There, she described the thorough cleaning of her washing machine as a "task she'd put off for too long."

All the tip involved was washing-up liquid, a toothbrush, bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar. Everyday household items which, if they aren't already in your possession, can be purchased for a mere $5 (£4).

The first step in the woman's hack involved washing the drawer of the machine in washing-up liquid. She then used the toothbrush to carefully scrape away any grim this had loosened.

After this, the bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar were combined to remove any nasty smells.

Once she had "scrubbed the life" out of the appliance, the woman sprayed it with .99c Astonish Mould and Mildew spray. It was then soaked in boiling hot water before putting the machine onto a 90-degree wash. This reportedly helped remove any stubborn marks which had yet to be removed.

The mom then revealed that she was so impressed with the results that she'll be repeating the process twice a month to ensure that her machine and by extension her clothes stay clean and fresh.

The hack attracted a considerable amount of attention on the Facebook group, where users remarked that they'd no idea that the drawers of washing machines could get so dirty.

"Wow, great job," wrote one. "Mine looks like your before photo. On my list to do this week."

"I've just done mine! It's very satisfying, well done," another remarked.

So, what are you waiting for? It's time to give your washing machine the spring clean it deserves!
