Awesome and simple stencil techniques you have to try!

Here are three awesome and simple stencilling techniques you have to try out, grab your card, paints and whatever you wish to stencil and let's get started.

Cloud Cushion Cover

You Will Need:

  • Blue cushion cover
  • Fabric Paint
  • Small craft sponges (Rectangle and round)
  • Card
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush

Method:

  1. Draw a cloud shape onto the card.
  2. Cut out the middle of the shape, leaving the excess around the drawing; this is your stencil.
  3. Place the stencil over the cushion cover, making it as flat as you can.
  4. Dab the sponge into some white paint and start dabbing onto the cushion cover, within the cloud shape.
  5. Once completely covered, take the stencil away and leave the paint to dry.
  6. Once dry, take a round sponge and dab into black paint. Use this to create the cloud’s eyes! (Because every cloud has eyes don’t you know…)
  7. Use the round sponge again to add some rosy cheeks, and paint a smile on with a brush. You can also add a sparkle of white in the eye for extra detail.
  8. For the raindrops draw a raindrop shape onto a small square of card. Like the cloud stencil, cut out the middle of the shape.
  9. Place the raindrop stencil somewhere below the cloud and dab a bright colour over it. Repeat this sporadically below the cloud, using different colours.
  10. Leave to dry.
  11. Put a cushion inside, and enjoy your comfy little rain cloud!

Arts & Crafts Wooden Box

You Will Need:

  • Wooden box
  • Card
  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes

Method:

  1. Draw your designs on card and cut the inside sections out to give you a stencil.
  2. Place one of the stencils on the side of the box and dab paint over it.
  3. Repeat this with the other stencil designs, using different colours, around the box.
  4. Add detail to them such as black lines or cute faces.
  5. Once dry you have a cute storage box for crafts supplies or anything you wish!

Heart Tote Bag

You Will Need:

  • 1 x Canvas tote bag
  • Paint
  • Round sponges
  • Card
  • Scissors

Method:

  1. For this craft, we switch things up, with the design going outside the stencil, rather than inside of it!
  2. Draw a large heart, or another design of your choice, onto a piece of card
  3. Cut it out and place the heart shape on the middle of the bag.
  4. Use a round sponge to create a ‘explosion’ effect coming out of the heart shape. This is done by quickly brushing the sponge away from the design.
  5. Once you have gone around the whole of the heart, take the stencil away and leave the bag to dry.
  6. The plain canvas bag isn’t boring anymore; it’s now stylish and practical!
